Back on the Bike

So after a whole lot of doing nothing I’m back on the bike.

Today, Christmas day was the third ride on three days for me and I’m suppose to go tomorrow too. I’m spent. The rides haven’t been long in time or mileage but they have exhausted me.

Friday was Canyon Lake and Tortilla Flat. It was cold and it was windy but it was also fun. 45 miles in 2:40.

Saturday I headed to South Mountain to ride the East and West loops and make the climb up Javelina. It was warmer and it was fun to be on the MTB, especially with the new derailleur, chain, cables and housing. The shifting was still a problem but I’m guessing that’s a worn cassette. 19 miles in 1:40.

Today I rode over to Christmas dinner at the Bailey’s. I headed South then took Queen Creek to East Mesa. Cold, cold, cold today. Still good to be on the bike despite being spent. 29 miles in 1:40.

The knee has felt good and riding hasn’t been a problem. Still no running but I’m not missing it right now.

Locker Placement

With a bum wheel I’ve been going to the gym a bit more often. And being back at the gym I’m noticing some old pet peeves surfacing. Mainly where people place their locks on available lockers.

Today I placed my lock on the far left bottom locker (seen in the pic). There we’re no other locks anywhere near mine. That’s the way I like it. I always try to place my lock as far away from others as possible.

When I was finished lifting I went back into the locker room and some jackwagon was sitting half naked in front of my locker. He was using the locker above mine. What do you say to this guy? There were a couple hundred available lockers and this guy camps out on top of me? How about some common courtesy and giving people some space so where not standing butt to nut.

Needless to say I grabbed my stuff and moved to an open area on the other side of the room.

Registered for the Dawn to Dusk MTB race on Dec 3rd and the 12 Hours in the Papago on Jan 3rd. Hopefully the knee will be good to go.

Sidelined

I’m heading into week 4 of knee trouble. The doc said it’s Runner’s Knee (Patellofemoral Pain).

This is not my typical ache, pain or sore back. It hurts to walk and I find myself limping a bit. Not sure when or where this happened although I have my suspicions it may be rooted in the running and hiking and riding a rented bike while in Bend.

I’ve been doing some exercises the Doc gave me and I’ve started back at the gym and swimming instead of riding or running.

Hopefully this won’t last long but at 4 weeks it already has been long!

Almost every Sunday morning I am on the bike going ATM with the team but not today. Chest congestion and knee problems have me taking a break.

So what to do?

A Ride is a Ride

Not sure if I’ll get out on the bike this weekend for a longer ride. I’ve caught myself a cold and my right knee is killing me. Riding isn’t bad it’s the struggling to walk afterwards that’s the problem.

I’m not even sure how I hurt my knee I just know it feels like bone on bone scrapage in the kneecap. I’ll take the weekend off and see how it feels next week.

A tough call too considering how nice it is out. Sunny skies, cool temps, and a light breeze are primo conditions.

At least I’m outside. Hooked the tag along to the old Jamis so the little one and I spun to the park. A ride is a ride though.
